Anyone who is looking for a job through recruitment agencies or through advertisements needs to be able to write a competent resume in order to sell it, that is, to impress employers with their skills and qualifications.
It is important to revise resume in a professional way so the resume could have more chances to grab a recruiter’s attention. Some choose a revision by professionals, an online company, which provides such a type of service and its team of professional writers revise fast and easy. Resume writing let alone revising is not easy but it is if you are a writer working for a company providing such services online. Selecting the best service seems to be quite a challenge but a review of those who have applied for help online might help to make a choice.
Important things to do before an interview
In principle, a resume will not hurt those who are looking for a job with the help of friends, as this will reduce the number of questions to the candidate. To compose a resume is an art.
There are certain requirements for the form and content of the CV (Curriculum Vitae). Translated from Latin Curriculum Vitae means “biography”, which in the first approximation corresponds to our term “resume”.
Not knowing the requirements makes it to where some resumes are more like novels or fictionalized autobiographies.
Meanwhile, the resume is not an autobiography, either in form or in content. The specialist should reflect in the resume, moreover, in a short form, only what may really interest the employer. It is worth adhering to a certain order when drafting it.
First of all, the resume should fit on one page (on one side of one sheet of paper). Even if a specialist has a wealth of experience or a long track record, it is nevertheless highly desirable to fit all information on one page, at least by reducing the font size. True, there is a subtlety here: if the resume is sent by fax, then the font size should not be made too small, otherwise, the text will be difficult to read. Experience shows that with a large number of applicants, the employer simply will not get acquainted with the second or third page of the resume.
The second important requirement: try to avoid syntax and spelling errors. It may seem to some that this reminder is unnecessary, but you would be surprised to know how many resumes contain gross mistakes. Accordingly, they made an extremely unfavorable impression and characterized the compiler unflatteringly. Understand that the resume is your face, it is, finally, a certificate for the product, which you yourself are.
At the beginning of the resume (the word “resume” is not necessary to write), you must provide the most important biographical data, such as last name, first name, age, and marital status. In principle, age and marital status can be indicated at the end of the resume, but the full name is preferably placed at the very beginning. Immediately after the biographical data, you should immediately indicate what kind of job you want to get and/or what position you are looking for.
As for the content, the composition of the resume can be divided into three parts: work experience, education, and additional information. The first two parts can be placed in any order, additional information must be placed at the end of the document. In this regard, one can only give a recommendation: if you have little work experience (or rather, not a particularly remarkable work history), then it is better to start with education. This is especially recommended for yesterday’s students.
The most important principle when writing a resume is do not to engage in literary creativity, that is, do not write. It is better not to finish talking about something than to say too much. Never write that you are an expert in such and such a subject if you know about this subject only by hearsay. Not only will you get caught by the hand anyway, but you can also ruin your career even by switching to another company, as bad news spreads quickly.
The work history, that is, the previous jobs, should be given in reverse chronological order, and the last jobs should be described as fully as possible. Employers are not interested in who you were or what you were doing five years ago, much less ten. Again, your description should, if possible, be adjusted to the customer’s requirements, without being distracted by little things that do not interest him at all (for example, that you had to work with some exotic program). However, if you have mastered some serious product that is popular or installed by an employer, then it is recommended to mention it. This will give you extra chances. You should list not only your occupation but also your position, for many employers this is very important information. It’s not bad if, as a separate paragraph (before the beginning or at the end of the work history), you give, as they say, the final list of your skills. It’s kind of a resume on a resume.
Finally, before submitting your resume, read it several times. Better yet, if someone checks it out. It is better to prepare a resume in several versions at once, even for the same employer: in printed and electronic form. If you plan to send your resume by email, then it is better to put its content directly in the body of the letter, and not as an attachment. If you still prefer using an attachment, then keep in mind that forwarding a message in a formatted form, even if it was created in some popular text editor, is considered bad form. It may turn out that your favorite Word is not used by the employer, and if it is, it may not have the required fonts.
